2020 Season Update

But read our post  for instructions first
URGENT UPDATE FOR MEMBERS OF THE NANTICOKE LITTLE LEAGUE: On Tuesday, Little League International released recommended guidelines for the 2020 season in light of COVID-19 (please see LITTLE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL WEBSITE FOR DEATAILS AND LINK ). After reviewing those guidelines, current CDC recommendations and the state of Delaware restrictions, the NLL board of directors has had several conversations. While we have been optimistic for a 2020 season with all our divisions, we wanted everyone to know that, during our meeting and correspondence we explored several options for providing our community with a safe, enjoyable year.
With the current situation, the board felt that a decision needed to be made on what direction the league would go in the summer. While we are extremely appreciative to all of you who have hung in there with us, we owe the community a sense of direction instead of uncertainty. We have evaluated the risks vs. rewards and know the extreme financial impact that this decision will have on the future of our league, but our No. 1 priority is the safety of our children, families and friends. After reviewing the recommended guidelines, we do not feel that the Nanticoke Little League has the man power or resources to be able to safely adhere to several of them, especially pertaining to social distancing in the younger divisions. We have also experienced several multiple refund requests over the past week and month, we apologize for not being able to act on your requests before now. This  has affected the likelihood that numbers would decrease also if we played. Several levels would have required interleague play, resulting in additional safety concerns.
Therefore, after great discussion and heavy hearts the board voted  this week that we will be CANCELING all divisions of baseball and softball for 2020. With no teams already established, we feel that there is an impossibility of salvaging a season and being able to adhere to the Little League International and state of Delaware safety guidelines. Also, if this current health crisis improves over the summer, we will make efforts to coordinate pickup games, or a camp style event late summer/fall (a date would be announced, maybe kids show up to be divided into teams and games would be played).
Please understand that the NLL has already accrued several expenses and will continue to whether there is ball being played or not. We are responsible for upkeep of the park although reduced, it includes  field and grass maintenance, utilities, damage from weather, etc. Also, this is a 100% nonprofit, all-volunteer organization. We ask that you please consider this when requesting refunds.
We will offer the two below options of reimbursement for registration fees (not online credit card convenience fees)
1. Donation of fee to the league.(very appreciated)
2.Full refund of fee. (Less online credit card convenience fee if applicable)
We will give our families until June 30 for their decision. If there is no request for one of the above options by then, we will consider your fee a donation. Please contact us, by e-mail at [email protected] . Please provide the following information on any refund request: name of child, age of child, birthdate, who to make the check payable to, contact phone # and the address associated with the child when signup.  Only persons who paid and signed the registration forms will be granted a refund. We will be setting a date for a drive-thru or handout process refund sometime after the refund request deadline. Please allow three weeks for all refund requests to be processed. Please understand during this it takes a lot of administrative work to track your child, and multiple children in many cases, to connect the dots correctly and get the correct refund calculated. We are ALL volunteers with families and jobs just like you, hence why a long time line.  Thank you for your patience.
Keep in mind, in September, openings will exist for new board members to fill. Feel free to add in to your emails any request to be considered for inclusion when time comes for board elections. Many of the current board members no longer have children playing and the young families will need to step in and take on various roles, many are just one task and done type work.
Also!! We are still in the process of qualifying for a matching grant. If approved it will require a fundraiser to help match dollar for dollar against that grant. If all the money is acquired, it would allow for practically  a complete rehab of buildings and a big jump on field improvements for next years 2021 season.  An awesome future is possible and now is the best time to jump on board and lead our community youth in the great game of baseball and softball.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding. ~ Nanticoke’s Little League board of directors.
